Onion Rava Upma

1 cup Semolina (Rava)
1 Red Onion (Finely chopped)
2 green chillies (Halved)
1 tsp freshly chopped ginger
1 strand of Curry leaves
1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
1/4 tsp Urad dhal
1/2 tsp Channa dhal
2 cups water
2 tsp Oil
salt to taste


  • Heat a non stick pan and dry roast the semolina on medium low flame till it changes into light brown colour. Keep aside.
  • Heat oil in the same pan, splutter the mustard, urad and channa dhal then add the onion, chillies and curry leaves. Fry for few mins.
  • Then add water and salt and bring it to rolling boil.
  • Then add the roasted semolina in a steady stream, while stirring continuously to avoid the formation of lumps. 
  • Cover the pan and let it cook for a couple of mins under low flame. 
  • Serve upma hot with any of your favourite pickle or sugar.
